In the Fall of 2004, a handful of Delta Women residing in Brooklyn, New York started a dialogue about expanding Delta’s footprint in Kings County. In June of 2006, official proceedings began to charter Kings County Alumnae Chapter. The chapter was to be established to service the Eastern communities of Brooklyn, areas that had not been serviced in the then, 57 years of Delta’s presence in Kings County.
After years of dedication, courage and insurmountable fortitude, the East Kings County Alumnae Chapter (EKC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., “The Crown Jewel of Kings County,” was chartered on April 28, 2007. Throughout the chartering process, over 20 Sorors were reclaimed, and as a result, EKC is now more than 80 Sorors strong and growing! For many sorors residing in Brooklyn, the chartering of EKC brought a rededication to Delta, a renewed commitment to extend and vitalize our public service, a charge to promote cultural enrichment and a will to enhance the quality of life for all residents of majestic East Kings County.
