Most people don’t think of exercise as a treat, but that’s exactly what our Physical & Mental Health Committee gave us on Saturday, February 28: an hour-long Yoga Mat Class. We stretched, learned new poses, learned breathing techniques and just decompressed after a long week.
Fifteen enthusiastic participants joined us at our “yoga studio” on Lincoln Place for the class and learned about the benefits of yoga. For example, did you know that yoga can reduce scar tissue from old injuries? Or that practicing yoga can reduce cravings and lower blood pressure? We didn’t either! We also found out that children who do yoga are better focused in school.
Overall, it was a great afternoon that strengthened everyone who attended both physically and mentally. Some attendees wanted the session to go longer, while others asked if we could host yoga classes twice each month. Here’s to more downward dogs!
