This past weekend, the last shopping weekend before Christmas and a big weekend for travelers, we helped make Annie the #3 movie at the box office.
Thirty chapter members, friends and children returned to the Linden Boulevard Multiplex Cinemas to see Annie as part of our sorority’s National Arts and Letters initiative to promote, support, expose, and raise community awareness for films featuring, produced and/or directed by African Americans.
The movie, produced by Jay-Z, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, features an all-star cast of actors, including Oscar winners Jamie Foxx and Quvenzhane Wallis; and Brooklyn’s own Eden Duncan-Smith, a past recipient of our sorority’s Emerging Artist Award.
We were thrilled to have Soror Sheila Beverly-Skinner, President of the Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter where Eden’s mother is a member, join us for the screening. “It was a cute movie for a new generation,” said one parent, and we couldn’t agree more! Annie is still in theaters and definitely worth seeing on the big screen.
